Kick Ass by Mel Robbins

Kick Ass with Mel Robbins: Life-Changing Advice

Date Read: June 2, 2018 – June 4, 2018
Duration: 6hrs 25mins
Rating: 2.5-3 🌟🌟🌟

I have mixed feelings toward this “audiobook”. Was it an audiobook or a podcast? It sure sounded like one with Dr. Phil + The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck in the mix.

I liked the concept and all, but it was not worth of it being an audiobook in my honest opinion, hence the 3 stars.

I liked how things were brought up .. but, I am a bit skeptical on how Mel can always be spot on? This is my first piece of her work that I have listened to/came across, I will definitely look more into this to form a better idea about her approach. The whole spot on thing was a turn off. I also did not understand why she always had to relate the things her clients tell her to herself and her experience .. I mean was this a narcissistic behavior that she has mentioned in one of her sessions, or was that genuine empathy?

I also think she did not handle her last coaching session very well, maybe due to the age of the client? The way it was discussed, it sounded like, putting the blame on others and parents in specific? I understand parents have a huge role on us and to take care of us when we are not able to, but not all us of are fortunate to have such nurturing parents in our lives .. but the client lady is 19yrs old.. should she be in the stage to blame her parents on their all wrongdoings in the past at this point of her life? Ok, I am all for resolving and confronting them about what have upset you, but will you leave the blame on them? I think Mel needs to clarify of what she was exactly trying to shape by this session.

On the positive side, I liked how she ended each of her coaching sessions with take away points, which I think I need to revisit them at the website she mentioned toward the end.

Some of her coaching sessions were very relatable .. I think that what kept me going listening the rest of it.
